Mama is back

A pretty little mama house finch has been building nests on our porch lamp for a few years now. When I hang flower baskets in late Spring/Summer she moves her home into the baskets.
This year she did some pretty decorating. She never decorated with the greens before.
I think they add quite the nice touch to her home.
Her three babies look quite comfy now.
I'm looking forward to their arrival.

Happy Spring!

Vlogemotions

Join Tim and others over at Fort Thompson for more Vlogemotions.

I was filming myself when you see the black picture come up. I could see me when I replayed the video back on the camera, but not when the video is on here. Like Tim says, "No second takes." But that's OK. I had just woken up, and looked a fright anyway. My emotion is pure joy, that God takes care of us each day. This morning's video brought to mind Luke 12:22-24 Then Jesus said to his disciples; "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!

I encourage you to read the rest of what Jesus has to tell us about worry. (Luke 12:25:34) In trying times like we have today, it is such a comfort knowing we can rest in God's Word.

We are Family

The babies are here and have a look that only a mother could love.
There were 6 eggs, but I see only 4 babies. I'm not sure if the others are laying on two of them or what. I don't want to hang in the nest too long. I'll keep on taking pictures til they leave the nest.

I've been challenged by CC @ His Heart. 6th folder, 6th picture. And the lucky photo goes to...

ABBY- a month shy of 2. She still had her curls. They never returned after her haircut.
Funny how she looks like the baby birds, with her mouth open. Only a whole lot cuter.

Also Miss CC is having a contest to win a cool CD. Check it out, for a chance to win.

Oh, and remember the other day when Pearl the cat killed the chipmunk and brought it to my backdoor? Well last night she presented us with a baby bunny. Nice kitty.

The Most Welcome Tenants

Every year, for the past 3 years a Finch family builds a nest between our porch light and house.

They do this in early spring. Too cold for me to put my hanging baskets out. But when I do...

they quickly abandon the porch light home and build one in my flower pot.

Mama Finch lays her eggs, and sits on them all day and night. If we go out the front door, she flies out of the nest to a nearby tree. She doesn't squawk at us, but chirps once in awhile to kindly let us know that she needs to get back to her babies.

Yesterday, it rained real hard, so we sat on the porch to watch it come down. Of course mom finch left the nest to sit in the tree. After a while, and being a mom myself, I shooed everybody back in the house, because I felt bad for mom bird sitting in a tree getting all wet. I'm sure it's not fun sitting on your brood with a wet hiney.

I wish she knew we wouldn't harm her or her eggs, so she wouldn't have to fly off every time we came out.
Soon we will hear the pitter patter of tiny peeps. Mom has also been kind enough to let us take peeks at her babies, without her attacking us. I will post pictures of her tiny new family when they arrive.
