Happy St. Nicholas Day. Many, many years ago, in Holland, an old man (St. Nick) went around and filled kids wooden shoes with treats and gifts if they were good. That's a shortened version of the story. When I was a kid, on St. Nick Eve. (Dec. 5) there was a knock on the door, and when we went to open it, nobody was there. Instead a bag full of candy, popcorn balls and nuts was there waiting for us. Over the years, we waited and was determined to get to the door to catch "St. Nick". We never did. It's funny...my dad was never around when this happened. He always had somewhere to be. He would stroll in about an hour later. We never put two and two together.
Today, we celebrate St. Nick with our girls. But they get their stockings filled with tiny toys and a few candy treats. They were so excited last night and didn't want to wait. I didn't either, but Perry said to wait until morning. They got us up about 7:20, and asked us if they could go check to see if their stockings were filled. They were thrilled to see that they were "stuffed" as Phoebe said. It wasn't a lot, but they thought it was the best stuff ever. Hopefully this will hold them until Christmas morning.
